All I Know I Learned from Cartoons

Love Krazy Kat!

Little surprised @Ojai Sam didn't namecheck Walt Kelly who would be in my top three
I think Walt Kelly was a true genius. When Fantagraphics started publishing the series of his complete strips I bought the first volume. It was enjoyable but I didn’t find myself rushing out to buy the later ones. Why?

Well, I guess the strip is a bit too talky for my taste. I can enjoy the Peanuts gang as children who occasionally sound like adults but swamp animals who talk like politicians don’t grab me. Also, the ongoing stories lack the exciting action and many colorful characters that drive the Popeye strips.

This is not to say I won’t change my mind. It took me quite a while to “get” Nancy. I will try another volume of Pogo soon and report back.

As a collector of those great bound sets of old comic strips (Peanuts, Pogo, Flash Gordon, Dick Tracy, Lil' Abner, and more), never really checked out Nancy. I'm not sure the paper when I grew up even carried it so haven't had much experience with the stip. Maybe I'll have to check that strip out too. :)

Mrs. Ojai "suggested" that I get more exercise so I decided to take up weightlifting.

At 22 pounds, this set is just what the doctor ordered.

I have that too!

I curl that in one hand and my complete Far Side in the other and now I look like this:
