Our Next Musical Venture?

MGers, with the lengthy 60 Years of Great Music series coming to a close, I was trying to think of another project that would be fun and also potentially keep the folks that post occasionally/checked in for the series coming back for more.

When I first discovered the MG in 2009, the thing I was searching for was an album club akin to book discussion clubs, and indeed really enjoyed the thread where someone would nominate an album, everyone would listen over the week and comment. I discovered a lot of great albums with that series (even the ones I know it was nice revisiting). I even to this day have an album club of sorts with my wife and son where we each pick an album from a certain year and listen.

Gauging interest in who would be game. I'm not expecting large numbers - I think we could have a great series with even 4-5 interested participants
My only suggestions re: format is that we randomly generate a year (perhaps between 1960-2017) and the person has to pick an album from that year (if you have a small group, perhaps everyone picks from that year or maybe the next person moves on to the next year). That way we get a range not only of styles/choices but also time frames.
Also IMO picks can be any genre and could be rare gems or well-known albums. I'm sure many will pick lesser appreciated albums but if all of a sudden one week someone nominates Dark Side of the Moon, I would gladly listen and love hearing discussion about it in the ensuing thread.

Post here if you'd be interested in participating (obviously anyone can listen to the albums suggested but looking for people who would nominate an album and join in discussion in the thread). If we have enough, we can start next week :)

I think this is a good idea. However, I propose we take a short break (two months?) from listening projects. I'm fine if everybody wants to go ahead, though.

Love the interest :) We've got five people and that's a great amount for an album discussion club. Of course, we could always benefit from others, so post here if you're interested in joining in the picks (of course any can listen to the album of the week and post about it).

Rotation to Pick the Weekly Album:
1) Zeeba Neighba
2) Axo
3) LP Freak
4) Unsom
5) OJai
6) YOUR NAME HERE ;)

Threads to go up Monday selecting an album. The prior Friday, I'll post a year on this thread randomly generated from 1960-2017. Then, Monday the person of the week will post an album and some words about their choice. I know few babble as much as I do, so you can post however much you want about your pick a sentence, a haiku, a paragraph, an essay. Others will listen to the album over the week and (hopefully) make comments too.
Then Friday, a whole new year will be generated for the next person.

Aside from the year, there are no other restrictions in your album choice - well, would prefer no greatest hits, but otherwise any genre, studio or live. You can post a rare gem no one has heard about or a well-known album we've all heard that you might think is interesting to revisit/hear discussion about.

I'll take the first week and start the ball rolling.

Because I'm up and could use some albums to listen to, gonna randomly determine my year a day early

Zeeba will pick an album from:

2004

Ooh, a 21st century schizoid selection coming your way.

You sure you're familiar with albums that recent? :p

Ouch, where's the knife-in-back emoji ;)

Actually it is a pretty interesting choice for me because most here certainly have a deeper library/appreciation of this year than myself. My regular rotation albums from that year are the bigger ones (Killers, Arcade Fire Funeral, Green Day) which I could select (nothing wrong with chatting about a well-known album) but which I won't. It's the first pick; I should scratch under the surface a bit, right?
Still, almost any album I pick, you guys will know but hopefully won't have checked out in awhile :)
