Turning off "watch thread"?

Is there a way to permanently turn of the watch thread notifications? My email is deluged with notices that "XXXX replied to a thread you are watching". I went through as many threads as I could and clicked "unwatch" but now see that if I comment in that thread again, I am automatically shunted over to "watching" it again. Aaaargh!
Stop spamming me, MG! I WILL see the comments when I log on next! How do I permanently shut off this feature for good?

If you click on the account button (on mobile it's an icon of your avatar, on desktop it will also have your username) then click preferences, then go to content options, uncheck the first two options, that will fix it.

Also, you can click on the Alerts icon (a bell) and click on "Preferences" at the bottom. From that screen, you can adjust the email alerts.
