The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night (1964)

Vinyl Spin of the Day.

Fortunately I held onto my original mono copy of this album. It's in great condition with the original inner sleeve touting United Artists Records' odd mix of soundtracks and mid-level artists running the gamut from George Jones to comedian Pat Cooper.

Four instrumental versions of songs from the film were were recorded by "George Martin and his Orchestra" to fill out the then-universal 12 tracks. They were even released on two singles, one of which charted.

Beatlemania was a beautiful thing.

Bill Henderson - With The Oscar Peterson Trio (1963)

flisten. This album was a birthday gift from a dear friend who knows a whole lot about all kinds of music. Bill Henderson (1926-2016) was a gifted (in more ways than one :worm: ) bluesy vocalist who worked with many big names over the years, including Ramsey Lewis, Horace Silver and Count Basie. Henderson recorded several albums for Vee-Jay before this one-off on MGM with Oscar Peterson. He turns in solid performances on a dozen well-selected tunes, pushing Oscar in a rootsier direction than usual with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen rocking right along with him.

Coincidentally, I just finished Robert Price's encyclopedic history of the Bakersfield country music scene when this album (still sealed! :D) arrived as a bonus from Discogs. Cliffie Stone wrote the liner notes and apparently assembled the tracks for this budget comp on Capitol's Tower subsidiary. Names like Tommy Collins, Dick Curless and Kay Adams manage to make a pretty good case for the Central Valley as "Music City West" without resorting to Buck and Merle.

Terminus Victor ~ Everending (2023)

Review from someone:
Terminus Victor (album 'EVERENDING') has always been one of the best bands in the land and for me this is their opus. Would be a good rec for anyone who likes the harder-edged bands that sprang from or were influenced by the darker new wave bands like Depeche Mode and the Cure, then influenced by 90s guitar salvo of bands like Failure, RATM, and HUM. You might hear a little Interpol and NIN in there. Not in a derivative way; in a badass way.

Kenny Drew Jr., Andy Simpkins, Albert Heath ~ Green Dolphin Street Revisited (2000)

I may be the only one who enjoys extended long-play CDs of Jazz piano trios, or maybe not, but this hits all the right notes with me. I found it for a couple of bucks in a Goodwill Store. Thrift shops are usually where I find my best dumpster-dive purchases.

I would rate it a :4.5: but RYM does not even list it.
