Miguelito Valdes - Inolvidables (1968)

Cuban Jazz with a lot of punch. I can't help but picture Ricky Ricardo performing some of this on I Love Lucy. It just sounds so 1950s.
You are not far off. Valdes had a music career that preceded Ricardo and he was one of Cuba's most popular artists with his band El Sonoro de Mancenera. His biggest hit was "Babalu-aye", which Ricardo then took as his own "theme song". I haven't come across one Valdes album that didn't make me want to get up and dance.

"You Must be Prepared to Dream" is the most Neil Youngiest song that Neil Young never recorded. Working with Crazy Horse will do that, I suppose. I guess that's why this won a Mercury Award in '94.

Yeah, I said to myself that this sounded like Crazy Horse, before I found out it was actually Crazy Horse.
