Acclaimed Music Top 5000 Songs

Hey! I'm into the top 1500. Kind of excited about that :)

1498) "Suedehead" by Morrissey (1988)
1497) "Country House" by Blur (1995)
1496) "The Whole of the Moon" by The Waterboys (1985)
1495) "Bastards of Young" by The Replacements (1985)
1494) "Caldonia (Boogie) (What Makes Your Big Head So Hard?)" by Louis Jordan and His Typany Five
1493) "The Bottle" by Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson (1974)
1492) "Rock Box" by Run-D.M.C. (1984)
1491) "Angels" by Robbie Williams (1997)

1489) "Birdland" by Weather Report (1977)
1488) "The Fear" by Lily Allen (2008)
1487) "The Magnificent Seven" by The Clash (1980)
1486) "Jack and Diane" by John Cougar (1982)
1485) "Flesh Without Blood" by Grimes (2015)
1484) "Mood Indigo" by Duke Ellington (1930)
1483) "Highway 61 Revisited" by Bob Dylan (1965)
1482) "Stutter" by Elastica (1993)

1480) "Up the Junction" by Squeeze (1979)
1479) "Shake" by Sam Cooke (1964)
1478) "Psycho" by The Sonics (1965)
1477) "The Look of Love" by ABC (1982)
1476) "Have You Seen Her" by The Chi-Lites (1971)
1475) "Love Hangover" by Diana Ross (1976)

Thoughts:
a) Love the Beatles, Blur, Waterboys and Replacements so list started off with a bang for me
b) I have always found "Here, There and Everywhere" one of Paul's most beautiful melodies (I'm not alone; I believe it was one of John's favorites of Paul's compositions). During my limited piano playing when younger, used to play it so always has a place in my heart. I fear it's not as known among younger listeners that might know some Beatles
c) My Louis Jordan collection just has his entry here as "Caldonia", so imagine my surprise when I saw Acclaimed Music listing of not one but TWO parenthetical additions to the title and back to back at that. Looking at Wiki and old photos of the Decca single, there is nowhere that indicates that the song's official title isn't just "Caldonia" so clearly the site is listing the song this way just to annoy me
d) Love "Rock Box". May have been the first Run D.M.C. song I heard back in high school. Have enjoyed it (and them since).
e) I remember 9 years ago when I was a new, eager MGer, I was shocked there was a big group of Clash haters on the forum among serious music lovers. I remember posting a list of 10 accessible Clash songs to convince the haters. Of course, I'm sure I convinced no one but "The Magnificent Seven" was one of them - has such great funky hooks.
f) Mentioned songs yesterday that are from 1970s but my mind places in 1980s. Squeeze in general I'm always 5 years off on - I first heard and enjoyed Squeeze in late high school/college with their Greatest Hits. Didn't check out the albums until years later. So I always place them in the mid 1980s

Some progress over yesterday and today

b) And then there's the Richard Harris version of "Macarthur Park" - ugh, really. Wonder if Donna Summer's version comes up higher. This shouldn't be here
c) Some great hip hop songs here too: "Swimming Pools", "Bonita Applebum", "Rosa Parks", "Big Pimpin"
d) "Lovesong" is one of the only Cure songs I like

I'm sure that's why they added it. So, to add insult to injury:

"(Boogie) (What Makes Your Big Head So Hard?)"

Thoughts:
a) Woohoo! Hit 1400 - sure if I just devoted myself to this list alone, could have clearly knocked it out sooner, but still happy with the progress
b) Surprised about "Nowhere to Run" and "Ain't Misbehavin'" not being better rated - giant songs that transcend their eras
c) "Girl From the North County" - love the duet version with Johnny Cash, but even Dylan's version alone is just so beautiful. I like "Careless Whisper", "Don't Speak" and "Torn" but both are light pop compared with the beauty of Dylan's song
d) Kendrick getting some love over recent lists - tremendous songwriter/hip hop artest
e) "Don't Call it a Comeback! I've been here for years..."
f) I don't break out Blind Faith's single album enough - "Sea of Joy", "Presence of The Lord", and today's entry "Can't Find My Way Back Home" are just so good
g) "Dear Prudence" - most know that Mia Farrow's sister inspired it, but do you know that Paul is on drums here because Ringo had left the group temporarily....oh you knew that too...well then good for you. Never mind ;)
h) I really, really, really don't like "Man in the Mirror". It's like that Free Willy song - ugh

1388) "Interstellar Overdrive" by Pink Floyd (1967)
1387) "Give Peace A Chance" by John Lennon (1969)

Short list - unfortunately a busy day (ugh, I hate Wednesdays) and after listening to some Mamas and Papas (inspired by Nicky's pick of "Monday Monday" in the Iconic Songs thread, just didn't get through many songs today - still a good concentration of wonderful numbers

1300) "Badlands" by Bruce Springsteen (1978)

Hey got to 1300 - some killer songs - "Pushin' Too Hard" is a great garage rock song, "Let's Go Crazy", Elvis Costello, "He's So Fine". We're getting to songs that could be your favorites by a certain group (for me "Rikki" is my favorite Steely Dan song"). Will we see some artists appear on the list again? Will there be a higher song than "Criminal" for Fiona Apple, than "Fuck and Run" for Liz Phair.
All in all a good listen - of course, Bruce's classic "Badlands" would be better ranked for me, so would "Rikki", and so would "Jeepster" - the last song is accurately ranked I suppose but has great sentimental value for me as I used to affectionately call my girlfriend (now wife) that in college.

Did your wife drive a Jeep?

Edit: actually, I'm confused. Did you call your wife Badlands or Jeepster?

By process of elimination, I posit that Zeeba called the wife-yet-to-be "Jeepster," and not "Badlands" ...not that there's anything wrong with calling one's girlfriend "Badlands," if one so chooses.

You see, he already said "Badlands" would be better-ranked; consequently, only "Jeepster" remains.

We still don't know whether she owned or drove one, although if she did, it would make his choice of nicknames purposeful, and show that he was not being silly or random, even in his college years.

Please make any rebuttal as you see fit, in the space reserved below.

You guys are so funny :)

For clarification: no it was indeed "Jeepster" that I called her and for no other reason that I was getting into T.Rex then and used to play Electric Warrior for her ('cause girls love it when you play music for them and say "Wait, wait, you're gonna love this song" right ? ;)) and liked the nickname
She actually did drive a Jeep briefly but oddly that had nothing to do with the nickname

In addition, if you know the lyrics, the nickname really doesn't make sense because the lyric is "Girl, I'm just a Jeepster for your love". So technically I should have been the Jeepster (and hey, for the past 4 yrs I drive a Jeep).

You guys are so funny :)

So are you going to change your handle to "Jeepguy"? :p

Thoughts:
a) Oh hell no! "King of the Road" is top 500. Iconic stuff right there.
b) Love "Scar Tissue"
c) Some pretty good listens here but Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat" really doesn't belong in this high company. Ordinary IMO
d) Though I have most of Talking Heads albums, they've always been a band I appreciate/respect more than I enjoy. Still "Life During Wartime" is my favorite song of theirs, and I'm quite surprised that it's down here
e) Some other songs which are pretty big within the history of their respective genres: "One O'Clock Jump" with jazz and "Follow the Leader" with hip hop, both pretty seminal early numbers in those genres
f) The year 1984 was pretty big for me musically in high school - Some here may not enjoy "Summer of '69" but it sticks with me today as a song that, when it comes on, I don't ever change the radio
g) "Think" by Aretha :(
