All I Know I Learned from Cartoons

Interesting list. Given my age, I suppose it’s inevitable that my choices would’ve skewed to earlier characters. There were lots of deserving candidates from Hanna-Barbera other than Fred Flintstone. And how is it that Charlie Brown and Snoopy are considered as a double act along the lines of Tom and Jerry?

But my biggest beef is with the selection of Peppa Pig over Porky. Perhaps his speech impediment is enough to banish him along with all the racially stereotypical characters.

Today would’ve been the 100th birthday of Charles Schulz. His eponymous museum has collected a batch of tributes from a huge variety of contemporary cartoonists here:


These strips are both highly entertaining on their own and illustrate the huge effect that Peanuts had on the comic world.
