Music Boomerang - News And Recent Trades

Our own Markonomicon is this week's "Get Buried In Music" winner at Music Boomerang! Congrats, Marko!:banana::banana:

Here's how it works:

To play this game, you may want to have some spare credits or be willing to use up all you have quick, because a lucky winner is going to be Buried In Music! Here's how it works: You enter by simply posting "I Want In!" everyone who enters is agreeing to ship a Want from the Winner's Want list and will post what was shipped and who got it. Players will receive (1) entry for each round that they attempt a ship to the Winner. For example, if player "A" enters 4 rounds, he/she will have 4 entries in the next drawing he/she enters. So losing entries accumulate and winning entries reset that player to zero. If you haven't been "In" from the beginning, you can enter more than once up to the total # of Rounds played to date. This way no one will have a disadvantage/advantage over others playing the game. Players CAN win more than once, and we will keep playing until every player has been BURIED IN MUSIC at least once. The winner of each Drawing should try to post they they are ready to be "Buried" and have credits so they can receive CDs. The winner can request some credits if they don't have enough, but unless requested by the winner, Please Ship CDs!!

Any of you MB traders, it would be great to ship something to Marko this week. Be sure to mention MG!

Thank you, kind sir!

I recently stumbled across the John Abercrombie samples on amazon, then checked out the whole album on youtube.

I was very surprised! Sounds like something that will get a lot of rotation, especially in the chillier months of the year.

I'm down to 3 credits at MB. Might have to buy a few. Haha.

So far, I have 17 titles coming in from this "Buried In Music" drawing:

Oliver Nelson "Blues & The Abstract Truth"
Kenny Burrell "Laid Back"
Miles Davis "Collector's Items"
John Abercrombie "Up And Coming"
Sun Ra "Jazz In Silhouette"
Pharoah Sanders "Karma"
John Coltrane "Africa/Brass"
Sonny Rollins & Coleman Hawkins "Sonny Meets Hawk"
Sea & Cake "S/T"
Sonic Youth "Made In The USA" soundtrack
Dinosaur Jr. "Green Mind" reissue
Weezer "Blue" album - deluxe edition
Elvis Costello "My Aim Is True" - Rykodisc expanded version
Ramones "Road To Ruin" - Rhino remaster with bonus tracks
Propagandhi "How To Ruin Everything" - 20th anniversary edition
Tom Waits "The Black Rider"
Minus The Bear "Highly Refined Pirates"

One trader tried twice and hit two other people, another tried twice and hit two other people and still tried again!

Two traders shipped two titles.

Some are new to me (a couple unheard), some are titles I used to have and sold when I was laid off twice in 2009 (sold right at 1000 discs), some are upgrades from the original pressings. ALL appreciated! I'm so excited!

So, if you have been on the fence about joining MB, come on over!

Thank you, kind sir!!!

Just had Tom Waits "Mule Variations" shipped out to me (another I let go of in the great layoff(s) of 2009).

I think there are 2 or 3 more I'm waiting on to ship (with 11 credits in tow)!

Big Labor Day ship train at Da Boom. I've already scored a terrific Algerian rarity from Earcartoons.

My offer stands: any one from MG who rides the train gets a credit from me to pay the fare. Just post here or PM me.

Is anyone here still trading over at Music Boomerang?

For a number of reasons I took a long hiatus dating back to the pandemic. But as noted in another thread, I am back. The Zedlines are doing a heroic job keeping the site running and still lots of great people over there. How about you?

I have not been able to sustain my participation over there.

A few years ago, someone talked me through the process of typing in old email addresses and passwords to get back in.

Ever since I have a new computer and cannot recall all of that, it just sends my notices to an old email address and all attempts to reconnect are lost in the ether.

Plus, what NB said. Even with my renewed access a few years ago, I made an additional handful of trades or so. Not sure if I received much in return.

Through the generous efforts of Zedlines and @PDH, the MusicBoomerang site will be undergoing some scheduled maintenance in the very near future. So far, here's what we know:

On Monday, July 21, 2025 at 9:00 AM CT PDH plans to take the site down for a site backup and to make a separate database export. He says, "I really don't know how long this will take with the EC2 instance we are running but I am guess somewhere in the order of 30 minutes. It could be much shorter or much longer. Best case 5 minutes, worse case a couple of hours perhaps."

More details will be shared here as they emerge.

As of an hour ago, @PDH reports:

The database backup took only a couple of minutes to complete. I'll be working with it the next couple of days to see how long everything else will take, but at this point it looks like site migration should take less than an hour.
