Music Lists

It seems like Mosaic Records has been around since the days of Moses. My first collection was #102 (Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker) and I've stuck with them through thick (Fats Navarro) and thin (Slim Gaillard). Their latest set by Don Byas is on order. No one has done as much to document and preserve jazz music of all kinds. Where do you think I found all the obscure jazz for the Capitol thread?

You'll never guess what #325 is! :axo:

#325 in a 300 Album list - have you just suckered me in with clickbait that doesn't make sense or is that a typo? Or a joke that I don't get (or that didn't hit the landing).
I think the emoji choice is throwing me ;)

I do like lists though...hmmm

I actually find this list far less annoying than recent lists by Rolling Stone and Apple - maybe because it's clearly a list not meant to make anyone happy and seems to have no bones about it - it's not unusual for a modern list to put old classics like Ziggy Stardust, Zep IV, , Dark Sidethe Stones, and Blonde on Blonde out of the top of this list (#37 Ziggy,#215 Zep IV, #125 for Dark Side and #34 for Exile, #74 Blonde on Blonde)
However such lists often put in their place Nevermind, OK Computer, Lemonade, To Pimp a Butterfly, and Lauryn Hill.
None of those albums break the top 20 and only Kendrick and Lauryn break the top 30. Some of those others are...way...down...low
So hey, no one is happy and I guess that makes a good list

Takes balls to make a list where albums that barely crack other lists top 100 like Nina Simone's Wild is the Wind and Milton Nascimento are in the top 10 (I do enjoy both)

Lots to unpack in this list, and I haven't even gotten through 1/5th of it yet. But I have to stop and applaud the decision to place #16 as high as Paste did.

In the way of every all-time great pop albums, this one hits all the right notes of its era, while also sounding timeless. The songs include no bloat, only groovy satisfying groove after groovy satisfying groove. The lyrics are an open book of love and yearning and the struggle to feel free even if one can't truly be free.

Maybe I'm biased because this was released while I had an approximately 1hr commute each way and the albums I bought at that time received heavy play and imprinted on my brain like a hot-iron brand. Maybe it's the way this album manages to sound retro and contemporary, one example being including Q-Tip and Joni Mitchell on the same song.

Also, while it doesn't affect the album per se, the tour for this album was a ridiculously over-the-top energy packed affair. I recently watched a live video of Madonna's "Like A Prayer" and it made me wish I had gone to more hardcore Pop concerts. The amount of effort that goes into such a show is stunning. Hip-Hop, Rock, and Jazz concerts almost exclusively focus solely on the artist performing the song, and that's great. Pop concerts are almost like a night at the theater watching a musical, in that the creators focus as much on the set and setting a scene as they do on presenting fantastic music. The concert for this album was very much a spectacle wholly in service to the great music.

Anyway, yeah, pretty good list ... so far. Certainly ballsy, I'll give it that. TVR wouldn't be my #16, but I gotta give it to Paste on this choice.

I think my biggest problem with the list is - who makes a 300 album list....why 300? Why not 100, 500, 1000? It's not an anniversary (e.g. "60 best albums of the past 60 years")....it's just such a capricious choice. ;)
