IN MEMORIAM ARCEOLA “R.C.” BROWN (JULY 13, 1956 – NOVEMBER 16, 2024)

Some of you have already heard that Arceola “R.C.” Brown, the lead guitarist of the Staples Jr. Singers, passed away last month. He died at his home in Aberdeen, Mississippi, beside his wife Linda, the love of his life for the last fifty years.

He was a doting husband, father and grandfather—and he was also a force of nature and a killer guitarist with a heartbreaking voice. If you were lucky enough to see him live, then you know what we mean. We loved him very, very much, and we’ll miss him more than words can express.

If you feel moved to, please consider writing on his memorial page, where his family will be able to read your message. Some of you have already left amazing notes; we know how much it has meant everyone in Aberdeen, MS.

This makes me really sad for many reasons. I'm currently more than half way through a listening project for all of her many albums. Her artistic output reflects Marianne's inherent resilience and ability to survive, reinvent herself, and thrive after a number of disastrous episodes in her life that would have killed a weaker person. :(
