Former Texas Troubadours Guitarist Leon Rhodes Dead at 85

I missed the sad fact that Leon passed away last December. During the 1960's he played for seven years with Ernest Tubb's stellar road band, teaming with his steel guitar Buddies (Emmons and later Charleton) to create remarkably jazzy instrumentals like this one:


In this clip from the Ernest Tubb TV show, look for future solo stars Jack Greene back on the drums and Cal Smith over on rhythm guitar. E.T. sure knew how to find talent.
 
R.I.P. Art Bell
Long time resident, and radio show host, Art Bell died today at 72 years old in his home in Pahrump Nevada,” the Sheriff’s Department announced on Facebook. “With an estimated 10 million listeners, Bell’s show was at the time of his retirement the most listened-to late-night radio program, and fourth overall,” ABC News reports.
 
^ I know the name, but don't know the music. 28 years old? wtf? I'm guessing foul play or drugs. What a shame, either way.

You are correct, Nick.
Avicii's health issues were known to the public for several years prior to his death. He suffered from acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking. In 2014, he canceled numerous shows in order to recover after having his gallbladder and appendix removed.

Country singer George McCormick passed away in February.

His obit at MusicRow tells us:

A gifted musician and vocalist, George moved to Nashville at age 14 to play music and work at WLAC radio. He began his Grand Ole Opry career in 1951 to sing and play with Martha Carson. In his 47 years at the Opry, he played guitar and bass fiddle and sang harmony, tenor, baritone and lead with Opry artists including Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper, The Louvin Brothers, Jim Reeves, Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton and Grandpa Jones. He retired from the Opry in 1998 was a member of the AFL-CIO Musicians Union.

Actually, George was front man for Wagoner’s road band, The Wagonmasters, for many years and wrote the hit “Big Wind” for Porter. Here he is with Pretty Miss Norma Jean and Mac Magaha:

"His willingness to discuss these matters in the public domain undoubtedly raised awareness of mental health issues and gave others confidence and belief to discuss their own issues."

Two hours earlier, he had tweeted: "Be so good to everyone you love. It's not a given. I'm so annoyed that it's not. I didn't live by that standard and it kills me. Please, hug your loved ones."

Shortly afterwards, he added: "I'm away now. Thanks."

His Frightened Rabbit bandmates released a statement saying: "There are no words to describe the overwhelming sadness and pain that comes with the death of our beloved Scott, but to know he is no longer suffering brings us some comfort.

Byron Katie once stated regarding suicide as an option, "Yes, but then there's nobody left in the present to experience the relief."
