The Longpigs - The Sun Is Often Out

A really fine slice of Britpop right here. Picked the CD up due to Richard Hawley having been in the band (don't expect anything here like his brilliant solo albums like Coles Corner, though).

To be honest, Britpop has never been one of my favorite genres. Despite several tries, the Big Four didn’t catch my ear so I haven’t seen fit to dig any deeper.

Nevertheless, I approached The Longpigs with an open mind, based on freak’s reco and unsom’s reaction. Glad I did. There are lots of good things going on here: guitars that jangle and crunch, vocals that emote, lyrics that contemplate the mysteries of love from an off center perspective. I can’t say I’m won over quite yet but I am going to do a lot more exploring.

:3.5: on the Sam-O-Meter. Subject to revision upward.

Thanks, @lpfreak1170!
