Fun fact about Headquarters that I just learned - when it was released it hit #1 only to be dethroned one week later by Sgt. Pepper's
However, it would stay at that #2 spot for 11 weeks and Sgt. Pepper's and Headquarters would be the top two selling album of the Summer of Love.

Wiki notes that the earlier 1967 release More of the Monkees was actually the top selling album of 1967.

Not to be mistaken with their UK debut album Small Faces (1966) or their American debut There Are But Four Small Faces (1968). Album title originality was not the groups strong suit. ;)

I just finished reading Monkee Business, a an unblinking and occasionally harrowing bio of the Prefab Four. More than anything, it left me with a sense of lost musical opportunities. However, for one shining moment producer Chip Douglas managed to keep these four divisive talents in the studio long enough to produce a cohesive piece of work. Listening to their extended Rhino Handmade Sessions package demonstrates beyond a doubt that The Monkees really were a viable group that was ultimately sandbagged by greedy producers and their own immaturity. Too bad.
