I have a track of theirs on a compilation CD. Like you, it's been at least 10 years since I listened to it, but remember that I liked it. I should check them out.
To American ears, Strauss waltzes can sound corny but Austrian Karl Bohm and the Vienna Phil give them the seriously majestic, nay, imperial treatment they deserve.
Do either the conductor or the composer look like they're fooling around with campy cliches? Nein!
Joel Ross - The Parable of the Poet (2022)
modern Jazz octet led by vibraphonist Ross. Some great playing by the band, which includes leaders in their own right like Immanuel Wilkins and Marquis Hill.
Underknown: Assumed by most (including me until recently) to be a sexy-front for a male-produced album (eg: Vanity 6 by Prince), despite the group's name and marketing, the women of Klymaxx were all accomplished musicians who made a very tight funk band.
Masur was director of the Leipzig Orchestra for nearly 30 years. He clearly had a strong feel for this rousing Romantic symphony and for Brahms in general. He wound up recording the complete cycle of the composer's orchestral music with this ensemble, which was released as an outstanding 8 CD set under Decca's Eloquence imprint.
