Sarah Shook and The Disarmers - Years

Birth of a redneck continues...

A fun big of punkish alt-country. The first album was more punk than this. It seems like with this one she's trying to be a little less novelty and a little more respectable songwriter. Both are great efforts and I'll be excited for their third.

I admire their spirit more than anything...this debut album was a double...then they thought they had enough good ideas for a triple...then they called it a day.
I know many people that consider it their best. I like "Sandinista" more for the "pure" Clash sound, and "Combat Rock" for their Clash-meets-more-mainstream-rock/pop.

Everybody loves this CD. I wanted to love it too. I'm pretty sure I still own a copy. I should listen to it again. Time changes perceptions.
I got it in a trade on the old LaLa because I liked the song "Our Last Goodbye". Beautiful song, so I thought the rest *must* be along the same lines. Sadly, it wasn't (for me). I traded it right back out. I can't, and probably don't want to, give it a re-listen. If I want to hear "Our Last Goodbye" I will stream it somewhere.

I've never been as enamored with this album as others. My 18 year son picked it up a year ago on his own and loves it. I've played it several times over the years, like you, wanting to enjoy it more. Giving it another spin.

Aretha Franklin - Aretha Now (1968)

Earlier this year, was going to see Aretha at New Orleans' Jazz Fest but she cancelled because of health problems. Now recent news that she's "gravely ill" in hospice care....makes me sad :(
