I entirely agree. I meant initially, it seems like an superficial gesture but in reality, I think it's really the best thing an entertainer would want.

For a major artist like Aretha, keeping her work alive by playing it works for me. It’s kind of sad how Bing Crosby, a multimedia superstar in his day, is now remembered only during the holidays as David Bowie’s duet partner.

For more obscure folks, I’ve had a lot of fun tracking them down and saying “hi, I remember you” by email. Without fail, I get a friendly personal reply and even a few conversations have resulted. The late Ernie Ashworth became an online friend.

On a related note (different artist), I came home the other day and my 18 yo had stopped in to get some more things for college, and he was listening to Billie Holiday. I was quite proud.
