Arthur Blythe - Metamorphosis (recorded 1977, released 1979)

This album was originally two discrete albums: Metamorphosis and The Grip, which were both recorded from a single concert. When released on CDs a dozen years later, the two albums were combined.

Not for everyone. Sometimes I wonder what to play, choose a Blythe album, and a couple of minutes into it, choose something else. Really hits the spot when I feel substantially off kilter, or perfectly in kilter. In the middle, I listen to other music. Consider him the Kafka of Jazz.

Blythe - alto sax
Ahmed Abdullah - trumpet
Abdul Wadud - cello
Bob Stewart - tuba
Muhammad Abdullah - percussion

Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks (1975)
