Tyler the Creator - Igor (2019)

Tyler, the Creator - Igor - album cover

Continuing our slow crawl through my family's yearly album selections from 1965 where we all listen to album selections from the others. Not many years left. Both my sons love this one, and, indeed, very impressive production (and comes in less than a tight 40 minutes).
Unfortunately my selection is next and I have no idea what I'll be choosing (especially since my younger son stole my Lana Del Rey pick  )

The Genius of Coleman Hawkins (Expanded Edition) (1959)

Coleman Hawkins - The Genius of Coleman Hawkins - album cover

I always giggle at these titles showing some boastful titles of old jazz albums ("The Genius of..."or "Genius of Modern Music") - clearly the labels chose the titles but I suppose artists had to go along with them (perhaps not given the era). I could see Coleman Hawkins seeing the title and being like "Yeah! That's cool! Pretty good description". Would be funny if modern artists leaned into titles like this "The Genius of Radiohead" or "Adele - Master of Modern Music".

Annabelle Berthomé-Reynolds & Ivan DonchevGrażyna Bacewicz: Complete Violin Sonatas (2019)

Achingly beautiful works by Grazyna Bacewicz (1909-1969) a pioneering Polish female composer get the nuanced treatment they deserve from French violinist Annabelle Berthomé-Reynolds, aided by the sympathetic piano of Bulgaria's Ivan Donchev. These works, composed in the years immediately after WWII, reflect the somber events that surrounded the composer's life in Poland leavened by the cautious optimism of the post-war period.
