Lois Johnson - Singles (rec. 1965-1969, comp. 2017)
At the time these Epic and Columbia singles were released, Lois was the featured "girl singer" on Ernest Tubb's syndicated TD show. Later, she would record duets with Hank Williams, Jr. She never had any big hits, but cut a lot of fine hard country music, much of which is here. Her heartbroken cover of E.T.'s "Letters Have No Arms" is chilling.
Berlin Philharmonic (Pierre Boulez, cond.) - Ravel: Boléro • Ma Mère L'Oye • Rapsodie Espagnole • Une Barque Sur L'Océan • Alborada Del Gracioso (1994)
Typical marketing gives the familiar Bolero pride of place over several much more interesting works. It's all gorgeous though, with Boulez bringing out the best in the enthusiastic Berliners.
I was going to recommend Burt Bacharach's fun filled soundtrack to the first Casino Royale. It has the extended 4 minute version of "The Look Of Love" as well as Herb Alpert's cool title song. But sadly, it's not on Spotify.
