Ray Ellis - Ellis In Wonderland (1957)

Vinyl Spin of the Day.

Les & Larry Elgart - Les & Larry Elgart and Their Orchestra (1957)

Vinyl Spin of the Day.

Les (1917-1995) and Larry (1922-2017) Elgart are largely forgotten today. That's unfortunate because the brothers used the arranging skills developed during the big band era to put together one of the finest large swing orchestras of the 50's. They broke up in 1959, with each going on to further success individually.

It's 80s day
As I've said before, recently been listening more to playlists

"The Promise" - When In Rome
"Legs" - ZZ Top
"The Killing Moon" - Echo & The Bunnymen

Is there some correlation between your individual yearly 80s playlist and opening day for the Yankees?

Bobby Hutcherson - Dialogue (1965)

MC5qcGVn.jpeg

Bobby Hutcherson's first released album was actually the product of his second session for Blue Note, recorded when he was but 24 years old. Although Sam Rivers, Andrew Hill and Richard Davis were all ten years older than Bobby, nevertheless their adventurous approach pushed him and his music in an edgy, almost avant garde direction. Rivers is a one man combo here, as he moves effortlessly from flute to soprano sax to tenor sax to bass clarinet.

There are many answers to this question. Here's an excellent example that I received recently through MusicBoomerang:

Obras - Quarteto Edison Machado (1970)

MS5qcGVn.jpeg

Sounds of the Universe ("SOTU" when it's at home) sez:

"Heavyweight Brazilian bossa jazz from the legendary Edison Machado. This is seriously deep, deep music. ESSENTIAL!"

:5.0: on the Sam-O-Meter. Eu concordo completamente!
