Ronnie Milsap - Stranger Things Have Happened (1989)
Ronnie Milsap (or as DJ Dick Haynes "At The Reins" affectionately dubbed him, "Run Of The Mill Sap") had a long string of hits that charted well country but, as his Grand Ole Opry bio aptly puts it, "just as Ray Charles brought country music back to rhythm and blues, Ronnie Milsap brought rhythm and blues back to country — and like Charles, he did it his own way. With a catchy, danceable country pop sound, he dominated radio during the ’70s and ’80s and pushed the genre beyond its rural roots and into mainstream entertainment."
Still, Ronnie has been a member of the Opry since 1976 and can go full on country when he feels like it. For this neglected gem, he surrounded himself with the best old school Nashville pickers like Weldon Myrick, Pig Robbins., Reggie Young, Mark O'Connor. These guys all know their way around a shuffle or a weeper. Highlight here is his chilling cover of the old Ray Price hit "Don't You Ever Get Tired (Or Hurting Me)" penned by Hank Cochran, Jeannie Seely's one-time spouse.
