Clifford Jordan - Hyde Park After Dark (Bee Hive 1983)

Recently I've been exploring the many hidden wonders of Mosaic Records' massive 12-disc Complete Bee Hive Sessions box. This entry showcases the Chicago jazz heritage on which the label was based. Clifford Jordan and Von Freeman on tenor sax, Cy Touff on trumpet along with pianist Norman Simmons and the rhythm section of Victor Sproles and Wilbur Campbell were all regulars at Hyde Park's Bee Hive Jazz Club where the label originated. This album features a smoky hard bop sound that transports the listener to the South Side on a cold winter evening.

:4.5: on the Sam-O-Meter. Speaking of smoky, I will have another Laphroaig, thank you. Neat if you please.

True that :)

My red-headed stepchild of a Byrds album - out of their first six outstanding album, this one gets played the least - it's a fine album too. The other ones to me are just better - still the title song/cover. Timeless:thumbsup:
Lay down your weary tune. ;)

I might catch flack for this, but I think the best version of "Satisfied Mind" is off the Walkabouts' album of the same name. Though, sometimes I think Porter Wagoner did it just right.

I'm kind of with you - wonderful song and I too hear the Walkabouts in my head ...
when I think about the song (I mean, not all the time)
