Since my current laptop does not have a CD slot, I can't play DVDs at my desk. I looked at USB dvd drives on Amazon, but I get the impression that they are used primarily for ripping CDs, both music and video. But, I can simply use it to play a movie on my laptop, can't I? Any one of you have one of these and how well does it work?

Never used one, but if the drive is called a DVD drive it should play them.

I don't subscribe to anything but Amazon Prime (Prime Video included), so I'm surprised about how expensive Netflix has gotten. Replace cable with streaming and now streaming is slowly getting as expensive as cable (when you factor in paying for an internet connection)?
