Friday random album clean up for 1975 ;)
I've always thought Zuma is very underrated - good stuff from Neil

Bob Dylan and the Band - The Basement Tapes (1975)

The performers from the album standing next to recording equipment

A little cheating here as this was recorded back in 1967-68. Didn't play it then and, though these songs were out there on bootlegs and covered by artists like The Band, Peter, Paul & Mary, Fairport Convention, etc, it was still a big deal being released officially in '75 - so hey, can't bypass it in the series.

AC/DC - High Voltage

Acdc high voltage international album.jpg

All right, now cheating the other way - wanna place AC/DC's international debut - was released in 1976 but contained tracks from AC/DC's 1975 Australia-only releases (TNT & High Voltage)
Yes, I am aware I am the only one who cares

Starting albums of 1976:

(1976)
Billy Joel - Turnstiles (1976)

While I don't think 1976 is as deep a year for killer albums as the year prior, some of my faves
Hotel California is an album that critics are often divided on - though I think appreciation is better that 10-15 yrs ago. I really like Henley's closer "The Last Resort" but what the hell is he talking about with that song. He's all over the place with the lyrics.

I actually got into Song in the Key of Life much later than Innervisions and Talking Book for unclear reasons, but it's a rare perfect double album (technically 2.5 given it's extra EP). Every listen reveals something new

Smiled as I played Ramones yesterday - was thinking of how Ojai really doesn't like this one. Gave a little giggle and turned up the volume :)

Aerosmith - Rocks (1976)
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak (1976)
Kansas - Leftoverture (1976)
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Night Moves (1976)

Classic rock kind of day
In college I loved Leftoverture, but my tastes moved toward tighter music and away from prog and longer solos, so I break out Leftoverture maybe every 5 years - y'know I still dig it. Sure the final Magnum Opus (the inspiration for Berke Breathed's penguin Opus in Bloom County) is pretentious and overblown as hell but many of the other songs have great melodies.

Warren Zevon - Warren Zevon (1976)
Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Live Bullet (1976)
Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive! (1976)
The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers (1976)

Can't leave out Frampton Comes Alive! It's just OK but is pretty iconic of the year and, along with last years Alive! (by Kiss) and the excellent Live Bullet led to everyone releasing live albums in the late 70s even if they shouldn't
Got into Warren Zevon late - close to his death when fan David Letterman had him on his late night show - since then, have become a big fan with his first two albums frequent listens.

Bob Dylan - Desire (1976)
Rainbow - Rising (1976)

I've said it before - as good as Blood on the Tracks is, I love Desire even more - maybe it's the opener "Hurricane", maybe it's the use of violin, almost certainly Emmylou Harris' backup vocals
And damn, I haven't listened to Rising in ages but it's a stunning hard rock album

Will close today's comments with a quote from "Hurricane", as timely unfortunately as ever:
Rubin Carter and a couple of friends are drivin' around
Number one contender for the middleweight crown
Had no idea what kinda shit was about to go down
When a cop pulled him over to the side of the road
Just like the time before and the time before that
In Paterson that's just the way things go
If you're black you might as well not show up on the street
'Less you want to draw the heat

Friday's usually wildly mix, but for the afternoon, going Jamaican - with some tremendous music including two Upsetters albums (the house band for producer Lee "Scratch" Perry), one with vocalist Max Romeo.

Every time I see the Super Ape album, I think of the ol' MG member Kiboko

1977 albums! Let me tell ya - if I were stuck on a desert island with just these 5 albums, I'd be pretty happy. I'd miss Springsteen, Sinatra and The Beatles granted but, man, this is some great listening :)
