Audiophile Thread

It is an axiom of audio that anything added to the signal chain will tend to degrade the sound.

A wise man (you guessed it - it was Unsom) once asked me about whether and to what extent my new-to-me hearing aids were audibly degrading the sound.

I have formulated my response. (Ahem.) They do not.

The reason is that our brains are wonderful things; they tell us what we are thinking. Try as one might, you cannot convince your brain that you are not wearing headphones or earbuds, if indeed you are.

Hearing aids are extensions of my ears, on (not in) the other hand. My brain has adapted to hearing better, to thinking that my hearing aids are part of me.

I can now enjoy my audio system in ways of which I could only dream.

There, you have it. Take it, or leave it.

The new HDMI Spec has been released. The steady march of progress in AV fidelity demands digital communication between components at ever-higher bitrates. Today, HDMI Forum, inc. has released the HDMI 2.1 specification, which brings numerous exciting capabilities to the table, thanks to its added bandwidth. These include support for 8K video at 60p and 4K video at 120p frame rates, eARC support, and many more.

I did a very close comparison between my Vali 2 and Magni 3. One thing I noticed, and this may or may not apply to all/most tube amps, the Vali had a tendency to amplify/emphasize any distortion that was present in a recording. Listening to the Magni 3, you could tell the distortion was there, but it wasn't so in your face. Therefore, I've decided to stick with the Magni 3. It sounds just as smooth in the treble, but also clearer and cleaner.

This is cool. Specs and numbers could never tell the whole story.

I am wondering on which amp Painter in Sound would sound the best.

I haven't received it yet, but when I do I'll let you know. :)
I shipped it out via USPS on last Wednesday morning, at the same time that I sent another CD to another spot in Florida. It was just received yesterday, according to SwapaCD, so there is hope.

Well, according to Informed Delivery, there was supposed to be 3 pieces of mail for me today, but when I went to my mailbox, there was only one piece of junk mail. I don't know if there's going to be another delivery today, or what.

Now, are you worried?
