My Bifrost DAC, which is in all ways an upgrade to the Modi Multibit I used for years, is currently distracting me with very clear cymbals I can hear on "You Make Loving Fun" on Rumours. There is another track here where very light drum hits that are inaudible on most sources are now evident. It is distracting because it very much changes my experience of the songs.

Turn the bias on your unit to Confirmation. That should chill the effect.

P. S. It's hard to concede past remembrances are incorrect.

P. P. S. Ask any shrink therapist.

Nope. It's not confirmation bias. I've been hearing things for the first time in music I'm familiar with ever since I got the Bifrost. Most of the time it's a very positive thing. Also, the bass from this DAC is of much higher quality.

Forgive me. I somehow misconstrued your mention of distracting into it being annoying. You meant distracting in a better way than I read it.

In that case, all I can say is, Goodonya!

I just upgraded* the RCA cables between my DAC and amp and the sound is indeed different. More body and clarity. The effect is pronounced. The holographic effect I'm getting is delightful. I thought you needed tubes for this (amp is SS).

*More of a sidegrade, really as they cost about the same as my old IC. The cables are significantly thicker and a little shorter.

Let me be clear: we are talking about cables that cost around $20 and are made by two guys in a garage in Southern California.

I know you are speaking to all of us, but...

...I am not surprised at all.

I discovered little things that made significant, positive differences.

Every time I make a change in my audio system, I find myself having to get used to the change, even if it's an obvious sound quality improvement.

I guess I'm old and don't like change. :meh:

Remember to change your underwear in case you get in an accident.

Your socks are holy holely, tho'.

I swapped the Schiit Pyst USB cable (made by Straight Wire) for an Audioquest Pearl USB.

Now this is weird. It makes the sound brighter and noticeably more detailed. It has that crystalline sound I associate with Sony CD players. The more detailed aspect is great, the brightness, less so. However, the brightness is not sharp or unpleasant at all. I always expect that with brightness, so the fact that it's missing confuses my brain. Brightness without being sharp or harsh, WTF?

The Bifrost is a warm DAC. It doesn't sound like that nearly as much with the Audioquest cable. I'm not sure I like that yet.

I've decided to return the Audioquest cable and stick with the Pyst. The Audioquest just sounds too unnatural to me.

Never mind. The cable seems to have settled down or I got used to it.

Edit: I'm returning the cable. It just doesn't work for me in my system.
