Hmm…so all of a sudden you’re the grammar police? I never heard you complain about this one before:Red Norvo - Music to Listen to Red Norvo By (1957)

Love the Vibes and Norvo's easy style. Still, odd cover art and the use of the preposition "by" at the end (though it may technically be grammatically acceptable) sounds weird to my ears![]()

I guess it all depends on why you start a project like this. In absolute terms you are right, of course. Blakey's 20th best album is probably better than anything Bill Harris ever dreamed of. But I'm happy to be exposed to him rather than yet another superb Blakey record. And as we get into a prime late 50s-early 60s jazz, I do question again the latest guides decision to be more widespread with artists (like good old Bill Harris above who is a fine player but hardly essential) at the expense of multiple albums by important and esteemed artists. Sonny Rollins' Saxophone Colossus and Village Vanguard set are here but not Way Out West. And where is Art Blakey's "Moanin'" IMO an essential album. And Mingus Dynasty and Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus but not Blues and Roots or Ah Um![]()
