Music Gourmets Presents 60 Years of Great Music - 1957

Sun Ra And His Arkestra - Supersonic Jazz (1957)

As a lover of psychedelic music, Sun Ra is a natural fit for me. Exotic and sultry, I'm amazed this was made in 1957. It's like it came from another planet. :p
This is a very cool pick from a guy who claimed to be from Saturn (Sun Ra, not Unsom ;)).

I've been trying and I can't do this. Anyway, my pick is Here's Little Richard by Little Richard. I copied the bb code and it still won't work so I give up. Sorry!

Worm, you were very close. I did 2 small things:
1) add http: in front and
2) paste the whole thing into the "image" button rather than "link".

Oh, and great pick! Another of mine is gone. :(

Well, if you would simply stop luxuriating out in front of Stanley Mosk, you could get some work done. :p

1957. Big Year.
Song by Sam Cooke by Sam Cooke (1957)

Probably not an album I even own. His first non-Gospel release. His voice blows me away to the point where, by my tastes, I personally consider him to be the greatest male vocalist to ever live.

I do own;
RCA Albums Collection 8-Disc
Complete Recordings of Sam Cooke with the Soul Stirrers 3-Disc
The Man Who Invented Soul 4-Disc
Sam Cooke's SAR Records Story (1959-1965) 2-Disc

Fanatical, maybe.....
Worth it, Absolutely.

Original Broadway Cast - West Side Story

This pick will at least please Zeeba if no one else. Leonard Bernstein's complete reinvention of the Broadway musical still reverberates in theater today with its emphasis on multi-culturalism, jazz and modern dance.

No Sam Cooke, unfortunately.

Cooke's debut is so interesting as is his evolution as the father of soul (sure there were some jazz, gospel and R&B artists that led up to Cooke, but let's face it...he's the first early giant).
"You Send Me" is here but the rest of the album are standards like "Moonlight in Vermont", "The Lonesome Road", and "Summertime" right out of the Great American Songbook. Cooke despite his gospel roots leans on the standards of Bing and Frank and begins his career crafting himself in the Joe Williams mode. Ah...but something unique is certainly there, and he would continue to evolve.

Agree with earcartoons - what a voice. I could hear him sing anything!
