Music Gourmets Presents 60 Years of Great Music - 1975

Yikes! It's time to post the next year in the MG's "60 Years of Great Music" series.

And here we are already at 1975

Here's the rules:

Each Friday, I'll introduce a new year from 1957 through 2016. Each member selects an album released in that year with a few lines (or more) on why you picked it/enjoy it. Your selection does not have to be the most important release or the most admired release of that year (though it certainly can be), simply an album that grabs you and that you really love.

However, once an album is selected by a member, you must choose a different album.

Together we will compile quite the canon of "Great Music" and, who knows, maybe inspire each other to check out some new artists (or to revisit old forgotten classics).

This week - the albums of 1975

Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen

One of the best Rock records of all time!

Somehow I thought Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells had been released in '75. I'm disappointed I missed recommending that 1973 release. But it gave way to this little treat:

Old & In The Way (Self Titled)

My group of friends had somehow become deadheads in the '70's, so with Jerry Garcia in the band, this piqued my interest. The selections on the album were very accessible to us rock and jam band lovers. Nice melodies and harmonies and arrangements that were easy to enjoy even if you weren't a bluegrass fan, executed by really solid players. It was a gift to have this intro to another genre of music with an ambassador that I knew well and was comfortable with. To this day I enjoy the album and often hum the melody to "Midnight Moonlight."

By the way, @Zeeba Neighba why is it that you don't include the RYM link in your intro post of each year? Inside joke to which I'm not privy?
The answer, I'm told, is that Zeebs does not have RYM access via his electronic devices at his work/medical office.

Edit: It is not because he is inside his privy. He wants everybody to know that he has indoors plumbing, now.

Indeed Axo's right - at work I can't access RYM. Apparently for some reason RYM actually blocks my work rather than the other way around (that's the way IT explains it any way)

But it has become (to me at least) a cute little joke with Axo - I enjoy him following up with the RYM link. Could I come off work Wifi on my phone and edit in the RYM link - absolutely! But Axo seems to enjoy it so mich and I don't want to take it away from him :)

I hate to shock and astound you, but I think your IT dept. is bullshitting you.

I would tend to agree. On the other hand, actual connectivity notwithstanding, one could just copy and paste the text of the previous link, change the year part of the URL and Bob's your uncle. But I would also not want to take away from the quirky charm of the local culture here at musicgourmets.org, nor steal the little ray of sunshine from Axo's life. So I won't push it any further.

I wanted Slim Whitman's version, just in case any Martians were attacking my MG friends.

ETA: Oh, wait... no yodeling in this song. Guess you are all on your own.
