"Throughout the recording, all we hear is the melody in one hand and arpeggios in the other hand. A competent composer would provide more variety.

The recording sounds like an improvisation, and I suspect that that is what it is."

"A great tribute to the heavens in all their glory, the ethereal beauty of the great beyond is reflected in these most richly harmonic and lyrical solo piano works in classical abstract. Depth of passion and whimsical lightness balanced in solid form to respect tradition for what it is. Richard Nanes is at home with two of history's dearest pianistic, predecessors, Chopin and Beethoven in this stylistic motif."

Music reviews is murder. Multiple witnesses. Variable credibility.

They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but with this cover, who would think it's sounds of nature or weather sounds?

ETA: Just realized after posting that this is not the album reviewed in my prior posting about Richard Nanes.

You mean Big Weather is not themed concerning the scummy dealings going on at the Weather Channel and the meteorology profession?

I saw these guys in OKC back in 2000 or 2001. They were fantastic live. The lead singer had his mic taped to his football helmet, played guitar and played a theremin with his head. They put on a great show. The CD is well-recorded.
Their music is impossible to describe. It's laid back and intense at the same time. It's funky and jazzy and grungy. It sends you for a lot of loops. It's always fun, though. I think the lead singer is now a dentist or something. Ah well. If you can get one of these CDs and are open to new musical experiences, you'll enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars AC/DC - thick upper lip

Hay these guys havn't been around in 5yrs. And I must say well overdue. The new album, or nowadays called cd, is great! It was on a simulcast on the radio before its release on this comming tuesday. All tracks sounded great. It has that distictive sound, and makes you wonder, just who is left out there who still rocks. Put down the dixi chicks, ricky martin, christina agulara, puff daddy, ect cds. Pick up somthing that brings rock and roll back to the forfront of music. This group with few others still gives back to the fans. The new AC/DC rocks, and wakes up the world to not forgetting the ones who made the present day pop singers famous. Go out and pick up one of the GREATS now a days. If your tierd of all that noise nowadays, your in luck, rock and roll is'nt dead!

Amazon Review for Crystal Comments, by Bud Shank, Bill Mays, and Alan Broadbent
Yes, I agree that this is a misplaced product comment.

"... that this fellow Sting has a mediocre voice and absolutely no vocal technique. Listening to him talk about music, and watching the DVD he's made about Robert and Clara Schumann (on which thank heavens he doesn't sing), I've found myself liking the guy and feeling an acute sympathy for his plight: he's a musician without an instrument. What could be more frustrating?

His rendition of these songs by John Dowland is as dismal as can be, but I'm awarding him five full stars for his good intentions and his perspicacity in recognizing the beauty of Dowland's music even though he can't express it. As Bob Dylan once growled, "I pity the poor immigrant who wishes he would have stayed home" in the land of pop. The horrendous blunderthumping of his 'lutenist' on this CD is another story; that chap is abusing a fretboard in public and should be reported to the SPCMI (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Musical Instruments)."

If it isn't obvious, this is a review of the following release: John Dowland, Sting, Songs from the Labyrinth

to those who already have Lambarena, Mozart the Egyptian, etc..., this dick is useless. On the other hand, it is an excellent compilation to discover the work of DeCoursons which has done a magnificent work in the diversion and association of classical works and world music.

There really are people who can't express themselves with the written word. And yet, it is entirely possible that this person has the ability to ace job interviews.

Did you also know that there are really people who use the word "really" too much?

"I have been waiting for "Little Miss Dangerous" to hit iTunes just to download the title track. No surprise Ted has tried to hide this record's existence. It's an embarrassing compromise in his flailing attempt to stay commercially viable in a time when pretty hair bands were taking over from the old arena rockers. But the title tune was the focal song of maybe the greatest episode of "Miami Vice." This gorgeous chick was a psycho murderous hooker, and the Nooge's song was a perfect fit. It's a great listen. The rest is shameful.

If Ted hadn't gone all ego and broke up the band that recorded the "Ted Nugent" solo rebranding back in the mid-Seventies, I bet we would have gotten a lot more and more memorable music out of Nugent. No, Ted, I can't stand to listen to you sing. Derek was a better singer. Meat Loaf was a better singer. Don Van Vliet would have been a better singer.

But Ted is an extraordinarily talented guitarist. "Tooth Fang and Claw" and "Ted Nugent" were spectacular recordings that belong in your collection."

Guess who
No, not Guess Who
