Music Trivia Night!!

Hey, if they can hold Trivia Nights at your local pub, why can't we do that here? Answer: We can!!

Of course you can be a wet blanket and simply Google the answers, but let's not do that. If you know it, good. If you don't, that's fine too, because quite frankly, you aren't going to win valuable prizes here. You will win our undying adoration, but that can't pay your bills now, can it? ;)

OK, I will begin. Answers spoilerated below.

1. In Nena's song "99 Luftballoons", which intergalactic navigator does she refer to?
2. According to the Talking Heads, the world moves on a woman's hips. What other four things does it do?
3. Before they formed the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards crossed paths and spent a good bit of time well before they even dreamed of being musicians. Where was this?
4. According to the band Semisonic, you are getting booted out at closing time. But where is one place you don't have to go?

1. Capt. Kirk.
2.. It also swivels and bumps and swivels and bops, bounces and hops.
3. At Wentworth Primary School, Dartford, England. Both were aged 8.
4. Home.

Place your guesses. And please play along and post your trivia and puzzlers too!

Don't want to let this one die - always love trivia!
I must admit aside from the Rolling Stones question (couldn't name the school but knew the rest), I blanked which showed me how lyrically challenged I am at times (I'm driven to a song much more by music c/w lyrics) but I am better at song titles, stats and artists when they come up in pub trivia

For example, a question came up once "What country is mentioned in the lyrics of 'Killer Queen' by Queen?" Do you know how many times I've heard that song - and I knew the first verse cold, but then the trivia jockey played some song by Lenny Kravitz and I couldn't get the rest. I said "France" probably because of the French imagery in the song (e.g. champagne)

It's China

Just peeked at Nicky's answers - should've gotten the "99 Luftballoons" answer  though I must admit I've never enjoyed that number.

Though a challenge, loved the questions, Nicky! Keep it up!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

1. What was the reason for Jimi Hendrix's discharge from his brief stint in the Army?
2. At what age did W.A. Mozart compose his first pieces of music?
3. Who produced Harry Nilsson's album "Pussy Cat"?
4. Who is in the band the Hollywood Vampires and what is the origin of their name?

1. An ankle injury following a parachute jump.
2. Age 5.
3. John Lennon. Bonus: this was done during their "Lost Weekend" jaunt in 1974.
4. Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, and Joe Perry. The band says that it an homage to musicians who have died too young due to excessive alcohol or drug use. The original Hollywood Vampires were an informal, celebrity drinking club "founded" by Cooper in the mid-70s which included John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Keith Moon, and Mickey Dolenz.

1) Classic trivia guy technique is to obscure the fact you don't know the answer with another fact you know. I can tell you Hendrix was in the same unit my father was in - 101st Airborne - at the same time, but they never crossed paths
2) Young! Good question I should know - my guess is 6 years old
3) John Lennon (yay! I know one)

If I remember correctly, Hendrix was discharged for constant masturbation and inability to follow orders.

He also constantly fell asleep while on duty and missed midnight bunk checks because he was out partying. From what I have read, it seems to ankle was just an easy excuse to boot him from the service with an honorable discharge.

Two quick ones:
1. What is the Best Selling soundtrack of all time?
2.. Who had his biggest hit, at the time, with the single "blue suede shoes"?

1. "And IIIIIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiii....." "The Body Guard"
2. Carl Perkins. NOT Elvis.

Never would have gotten either of these correct.

1) Should be Saturday Night Fever...the fact that you're asking gets me suspicious that it's something else like the Bodyguard
2) As Elvis' biggest hit was not "Blue Suede Shoes", it must be the song's creator Carl Perkins

Sweet!

I knew the answer to #2 but not the other. Have to admit, I'm rolling about 15% on correct answers here but I hope you'll keep posting. I love bar trivia night but haven't been in ages. So as not to put the burden on old Nickyboy, I offer these questions...

1. What band at one time or other included Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck?
2. Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor were all, at one time or another, part of what band?
3. Coco Montoya and Debbie Davies both played with what blues icon's band?

1. The Yardbirds
2. John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers
3. Albert Collins

1. How many keys are there on a baby grand piano?
2. Who is the most successful UK solo artist in the US?
3. Celine Dion represented which country in the 1988 Eurovision song contest?
4. The Boswell Sisters released an album in 1934. One of the song titles was the first ever to use three words together. What were they?
5. Which band from the UK was the first to ever reach #1 on the US charts, and what was that song?

1. 88.
2. Elton John
3. Switzerland
4. Rock and Roll
5. The Tornados, with the 1962 hit "Telstar"

Those were my answers too, but with an extra "?" for the third question.
And to be honest, I was surprised at the third answer too. I thought they were both in Muddy Waters' band. Fortunately I decided to double-check before I posted and it turned out to be as mentioned in the spoiler.

As to your latest round of questions, I again got 1 out of 5. I was surprised at #3 for obvious reasons. And as to #5, I remember hearing that song on the radio when I was a kid. I had no idea that was a UK band.

2 and 3 I knew.
4 I did not.
5 I should have gotten.

Nice theme!
