I know many of you know who this is - but maybe you don't think of him as a guitar player. In case you don't recognize him, this is Alan Kuperschmidt - better known as Al Kooper - circa 1964 before he became famous. At the age of 14 Al was the guitarist in The Royal Teens (they had a hit with the novelty song "Short Shorts"). A couple pf years later he starting writing / co-writing songs including "This Diamond Ring" (which was recorded by Gary Lewis And The Playboys). He would go on to play organ on Bob Dylan's song "Like A Rolling Stone", become a member of The Blues Project, form Blood, Sweat & Tears and produce a number of bands / artists including the first three albums by Lynyrd Skynyrd and record his own projects which included working with Mike Bloomfield.
