Random Music Thoughts

I just looked at my 2022 albums. Here is the Genre breakdown.
Jazz: 15
HipHop: 5
Soul/R&B: 2
Rock: 1

Admittedly, applying Genre labels to some of these is akin to playing 3-Card Monty. I list Robert Glasper's "Black Radio 3" as Jazz, but it just won the Grammy for R&B album of the year. I won't argue with that classification, but around these here parts, songs from that album are played daily on WNCU the local Jazz station, and basically never on the R&B stations. Staying off-topic a bit, it was hilarious that Chris Brown complained that he lost that Grammy to a guy he doesn't know anything about. Chris even said "who the f_ck is Robert Glasper???" What made that funny is Glasper once released an album with a song that pretty much played off that question. And after the Chris Brown social media rant, Glasper starting selling t-shirts on his site with that quote.

Okay, back to my 2022 albums ... it's no surprise that my list continues to be dominated by Jazz and Jazz-ish albums. But I kind of wish I had better kept up with R&B and Rock, and especially Hip-Hop. I'm at the point of being introduced to new-to-me artists by my 21 year old son. That makes me feel older than any other part of my life.

Your son is 21? Time files when you're having... something.

Let's hope that this is the least kind way of finding out you feel older.

I hate filing worse than anything.

I’m sure I’m not one to talk, but The Black Keys (on the Super Bowl pregame show) are looking old
I seriously give up, then.

Yep. Turned 21 two weeks ago. He's happiest about being able to stop using his fake I.D. because it fails more often than it succeeds. He says it only works at the dive college bar. The bouncers at the fun bars laugh when he presents it.

He goes to his college basketball games often. Last week he bought his first beer at a game. He didn't know how expensive beer is at sporting events. He said it might be his last beer ever at a game. :Matt:
