Random Music Thoughts

It's very dated at this date, but listen to this track from Eric Johnson. The beginning is a lot of "preamble", but when he finally gets into the melody he has a lot of additional, impressive finger work. In my opinion, better than Eddie Van Halen did, and so many guitar buffs say EVH is a guitar god. So why didn't Eric Johnson ever make it big?

I don't think Eric Johnson is disregarded as a guitarist's guitarist.

If I remember correctly, many annual polls put EJ in the top five all-time, up there with Jimi.

This video (which I found at the end of yours) is hugely telling. EJ plays the solo that is the climax culmination pinnacle apotheosis. Viewer comments seem to bear that out.

ETA: What would Miles say about EVH: "Too many notes!"

What would Miles say about Joey Santiago, if he had heard him? "Stay away from the brown acid!"

Fantastic article. @Nickyboy
Great article. I didn't realize there was such turmoil in the band at the time. But out of a miserable time came, what I think, is their greatest album, even if it is criminally overlooked still today.
