Random Music Thoughts

My college room mate and I used to make music recordings using found sounds and playing instruments and layering them on tape. One we made was in the Balinese temporal cycle and we got an A for it in music class. Woo hoo!

While I have not kept up with my musical performances, he has. Here is a soundcloud of his current band. I think it sounds like 1950s/60s era Herbie Hancock/Miles Davis: https://soundcloud.com/mark-luthringer/walk-tight-now

I am glad he is still at it. >thumbs up!<

Oh hell no.
I mean stuff like ..."Havin' My Baby",
True.Classic.
I remember first hearing that as an elementary school age child watching a rerun of I Love Lucy. I have loved it ever since. Then again, I am fond of schmaltz. Though I hardly ever listen to him, Barry Manilow is someone I would never probably turn off.

"Havin' My Baby" was sung by Paul Anka, not Manilow. Although I can hear it in Manilow's voice too.

Strike 1: I unintentionally mixed subjects. I mentioned Manilow not as the singer of "Havin' My Baby" but as an example of schmaltz.
Strike 2: I was talking about the wrong song in the first place, because the song I heard on I Love Lucy was "We're Having a Baby, My Baby and Me."
Strike 3: Despite my being a lover of some things schmaltz, after youtubing the correct song (thanks for letting me know to include "anka" in the search,) I have to admit that song was a bit too much for me.

Funny. The randomness and non correct references somehow all made sense to me. I guess that's why no one in my home understands what I'm talking about half the time......

What McCartney song did Nike use?

P.S. I have heard that Nike is awestruck by your potential purchasing power. :p

They used the Beatles' song "Revolution."

Nike being disappointed in my stance is neither here nor there. And I've always preferred Reebok or New Balance anyway. :D

This interview with Ted Leo makes for a very moving read. Leo's been one of my musical heroes for some years now, and I got to meet him last March on JoCo Cruise 2017. What a nice guy he is!

I read that the other day and was really impressed with how honest it actually was. Unique for most interviews, but fits what I know about him.

I'm glad he's finally releasing a new solo album again, I happily gave him Kickstarter money so he could do whatever he wanted.

There's the old phrase "Too Many Cooks Spoil the Broth", and there probably should be a similar phrases about too many Listening Series. As stated before, I often love diving into a theme when choosing the albums/songs I'm going to play. However, I've returned from a no-music 8 day vacation to find myself over-committed to my year-by-year series, Acclaimed Music 6000 song series, my newly started Jazz series. Also, have been listening to pop music of 2006-2010 (don't ask why...oh I'll probably tell you anyway on another thread) and have just read Bruce Springsteen's autobiography with a hankering to do my annual visit into his catalog as well as the bootlegs I own.

I'm sure all have a mixed reaction of "You're insane" and "Who Gives A Damn", but it's a music board! What did you expect? The Spanish Inquisition? A discussion of cold fusion?

So gonna work on 1973 this week then put the yearly series on hold. I really want to work on the 6000 song list while continuing the jazz series...but not before some Bruce

I really didn't solve very much here:(

Have you ever thought of using a random number generator to decide what to listen to next? :p
