Random Music Thoughts

Dear Abby,

My 15 year old has been suddenly listening to a lot of Radiohead...in 2019...should I be concerned this is occurring in such a young guy?

Concerned Dad

;)
There there.

Don't be let down.

There are no surprises.

You're lucky.

Everything is in its right place.

Creep.

Rolling Stones was the BIG act at this year's New Orlean's Jazz Fest so my son (who has never seen them) was saddened when Mick had health issues and cancelled

On Google News today, the headline of Led Zeppelin reuniting to play instead of Stones at Jazz Fest. Was really excited initially - then remembered it was April 1. I searched on Led Zep and only found one site reporting this.
Of course it was an April Fools Joke - they didn't fool me for more than 30 seconds but for that 30 seconds I was pretty excited :vic:

The song remains the same. :nunja:

From yesterday’s bluegrass news:

Actually that’s not entirely true. I’ll explicate tomorrow.
I'll swan. You'd best not mention any of the deevil's music, that Nu-Grass abominashun.

P. S. ... which I happen to like.

I also know that some second-generation groups, like The Seldom Scene, used drums on their albums.

^ Drums are sorely absent from Bluegrass, and that's one of the best things about it.
Within a decade after Bill Monroe unleashed bluegrass on an unsuspecting world, a schism had developed between traditionalists and modernists. Drums were always right on the fault line. First generation acts were not immune to the lure of the traps. Here are some examples:

Jim & Jesse sneaked a tambourine into one 1964 Epic session (played by yakety-sax man Boots Randolph ) , then went full drums next time in the studio. The following year purists were outraged when they did a whole album of Chuck Berry covers that worked far better than one might think:

More to come....

April Fools Day is the best day to read lots of news. It's like The Onion everywhere you turn.

I was actually really impressed with the cover of Johnny B. Goode. "Better than you might think" is the perfect description.

For decades, I've waited for any mainstream media to not simply accept Hip Hop, but to love it and express that love by allowing Hip Hop a prominent place in its list of top albums of the year. Usually, Hip Hop will score one top 10 mention, and maybe another one or two in the 11-20 range. Rarely would a list truly reflect Hip Hop's place in pop music culture.

This morning, I stumbled across RateYourMusic's list of Best of 2018. I was shocked to find 4 of the top 6 albums are Hip Hop albums. Then I was surprised to realize I have not listened to any of them.

Just when mainstream media gets to where I want it on this topic, I'm not there any more.

Just so you don't take my laughing in the wrong way, it's because of your final sentence.
