Random Music Thoughts

discogs.com has become my go to source of records. Their interactive database is the best in the world, so good that I‘m slowly adding my collection.

They just published an authoritative “Guide To Record Collecting“ here. Worth a look if only for the discussion of grading.

tl,dr

...but, I will!
Make sure you keep those records clear of radiators, vents, and your George Foreman Grill.
Sage advice.

Oh, and avoid burning sage directly next to the records, too.

Interesting you should mention this - I didn't realize this anniversary but my friend texted me today to name three artists that "ended their career prematurely due to an early death that you wished were still around".

Of course, seeing what directions Ian Curtis (of Joy Division), Buddy Holly, Hank Williams, or Jimi Hendrix would have taken, I chose
Clifford Brown (clearly influenced by my recent 50s listening)
Otis Redding
Kurt Cobain (all right, seems like a pat answer but I'm really curious what would have occurred next)

His choices btw were Nick Drake, Janis Joplin, and Michael Hutchence (of INXS - I did not point out to by good bud that I didn't feel Hutchence left at an early and crucial point in his career :))

Then I saw Rick's Otis post - cue Twilight Zone music

Very thoughtful response

I never thought I would see Nick Drake and Michael Hutchence mentioned in the same sentence, but it's okay because Janis seems to separate the two in ample fashion.
