Random Music Thoughts

Today the busker outside LA Public Library was playing "Autumn Leaves" over and over on the trumpet. What will he play in September, "Jingle Bells"? :(

There's the old phrase "Too Many Cooks Spoil the Broth", and there probably should be a similar phrases about too many Listening Series. As stated before, I often love diving into a theme when choosing the albums/songs I'm going to play. However, I've returned from a no-music 8 day vacation to find myself over-committed to my year-by-year series, Acclaimed Music 6000 song series, my newly started Jazz series. Also, have been listening to pop music of 2006-2010 (don't ask why...oh I'll probably tell you anyway on another thread) and have just read Bruce Springsteen's autobiography with a hankering to do my annual visit into his catalog as well as the bootlegs I own.

I'm sure all have a mixed reaction of "You're insane" and "Who Gives A Damn", but it's a music board! What did you expect? The Spanish Inquisition? A discussion of cold fusion?

So gonna work on 1973 this week then put the yearly series on hold. I really want to work on the 6000 song list while continuing the jazz series...but not before some Bruce

I really didn't solve very much here:(
Can't have too much of a good thing, @Zeeba Neighba. All of your projects are interesting and provoke discussion, which is what we are about. Keep 'em comin'!

You don't listen to Bruce's complete catalog every year do you?

Welcome to Radio Garden, free from the internet’s sin.

https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/27/16048966/radio-garden-browse-international-radio-stations

Radio Garden is, essentially, Google Earth for radio. You click and drag a 3D globe around, and zoom in on local stations around the world. Every dot represents a feed you can tune in to, and, using the options in the top left of the webpage, you can switch between live streams, historical content, jingles, and recorded interviews. Live streams are the most engaging, and in a few minutes you can browse everything from Ugandan pop to Norwegian evangelical rock to Japanese J-pop to Indian astrological advice. It’s a genuine cornucopia, with nearly 10,000 stations available to tune in to.

This has been frenetic (and not at all fun) week at work (and my posting has suffered for it - apologies), but I noticed something interesting. In the middle of craziness, rather than choose a particular album, I've gravitated to just spinning greatest hits comps - Blondie, Simon & Garfunkel, The Cars, Sinatra - rather than go with those groups' albums (which get play be me at other times). Some kind of Freudean regression to musical comfort food? Who knows? It seems like top familiar albums I like should serve the same purpose. Just an observation
