Random Music Thoughts

I was looking up Freddie and the Dreamers, for some discernible reason. I had momentarily gotten them mixed up with John Fred and His Playboy Band.

Lester Bangs was / was not a fan. In the 1980 Rolling Stone History of Rock & Roll, Lester Bangs wrote of the group:

Freddie and the Dreamers [had] no masterpiece but a plentitude [sic] of talentless idiocy and enough persistence to get four albums and one film soundtrack released ... the Dreamers looked as thuggish as Freddie looked dippy ... Freddie and the Dreamers represented a triumph of rock as cretinous swill, and as such should be not only respected, but given their place in history.

Lester Bangs is hilarious - probably not a fun guy to hand out with, but enjoy his writing

To jump on your mix up, I met John Fred's wife once (he had passed) - he's from Baton Rouge. Though most of the world know only the novelty "Judy in Disguise (With Glasses)", he actually had a local presence of older folks who enjoyed his other material.

Coincidentally, my New Years weekend classical included both Haydn and Schubert

Vanilla Fudge not so much....

I want to lodge a minor objection to late-stage moderation of December's music thread.

You did not even let me get a pwn in by allowing me to add to Zeeb's message, the following:

"You kept us hanging on" for that?

ETA: It's a self-own, tho', because you could ask the same of me, as well. :axo:
