Tupper Saussy - Said I To Shostakovitch (1965)

Tupper Saussy had a fascinating life story, not all of which is particularly pretty. Wiki hits the highlights thusly:

Frederick Tupper Saussy III (July 3, 1936 – March 16, 2007) was an American composer, musician, author, artist, and conspiracy theorist. His contemporaries describe him as a self-styled theologian, restaurant owner, ghostwriter of James Earl Ray’s biography, King assassination conspiracy theorist, anti-government pamphleteer, and radical opponent of the federal government’s taxation and monetary authority.

This interesting trio album shows that Tupper truly knew his way around a piano. However, as the title and the pocket square both suggest, it's way too fey, at least for my taste.

:3.0: on the Sam-O-Meter. Etouffee is better than way too fey, so off to Music Boomerang it goes.

Modern Jazz Quartet - MJQ Live At The Lighthouse (1967)

This is more like it. The Lighthouse's relaxed Hermosa Beach vibe suited Milt Jackson and MJQ perfectly in this joyous set from March 17, 1967.

Suzie Vinnick - Shake the Love Around

One of the tracks from this ("Danger Zone") came up on my Spotify Discover playlist. She sang with a bass guitar as the only instrument. It was really interesting so I decided to listen to the whole album. Well played, Spotify.

Smokin' Joe Kubek & Bnois King - Fat Man's Shine Parlor

Kubek's rocking blues guitar is tempered by King's jazz proclivities. These guys play rock/blues, but compared to someone like Stevie Ray Vaughan there's more melody and less showboating.
