Eric Kloss - One, Two, Free (Muse 1973)

All About Jazz sez:

Pittsburgh native Eric Kloss (b. 1949) was one of the most distinctive, original voices to emerge on alto sax in the mid-60s. He was only 16 when the first of his eleven Prestige albums was released in 1965. These records featured the cream of the crop of New York musicians and the young Kloss more than held his own with heavyweights like Booker Ervin, Jaki Byard, Chick Corea, Cedar Walton, and most notably, guitarist Pat Martino.

Kloss switched to the Muse label in 1972 and debuted with this outstanding quartet recording, One, Two, Free which remains his finest achievement. In a group featuring Pat Martino on guitar and Ron Thomas on electric piano as well as bassist Dave Holland and fellow Pittsburgher Ron Krasinski on drums, Kloss pushes and pulls his group to take chances that explore the outer edges of bop, fusion and even funky pop music.

:5.0: on the Sam-O-Meter. This record sounds 5 to 10 years ahead of its time.

Front Country - This Is Front Country (2012)

Excellent debut EP from this Northern California bluegrass band.

Trinity River Band - Today Don't Look Like Rain (2013)

Another fine young family bluegrass band. The stirring lead vocals of Sarah Harris are beyond outstanding.

Ginger Baker - Falling Off The Roof (1995)

When Ginger released this jazz album with his "trio" I rolled my eyes but it's the real deal and holds up very well today. Of course way back in those dark pre-MG days I was unfamiliar with Charlie Haden and Bill Frisell.

:4.5: on the Sam-O-Meter even if Spotify does spell the album title incorrectly.

Glen Cambpell - Adios

220px-GlenCampbellAdios.jpg

From the Wikipedia Article (emphasis added): "Adiós is the 64th and final studio album by... Glen Campbell.

"After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease... he entered the studio in Nashville to record a final album."

While the album was recorded in 2012-13, it wasn't relased until 2017. I don't know the details of the delay. Campbell passed away 2 months after the album was released.

James Moody - Feelin' It Together (Muse 1973)

Sparkling hard bop with Kenny Barron a key part of the quartet.

Brandi Carlile- The Story (2007)

Jebus Cripes. The pipes on this woman!

Amen brother! I just recently started listening to her myself and that's exactly what I thought. There's a later album of her material called "Cover Stories" where other artists cover the songs on this album. Check out Dolly Parton's cover of The Story. Spotify
