The Temptations - Gettin' Ready (1966)

Got tickets to go see Ain't Too Proud, the Tony winning Broadway play about the Temptations. Figured I should listen to them in the (many) weeks leading up to the show. Starting with this one instead of Temptin' Temptations which was released a year earlier, because this one always gets more play by me and I always go to it when I think of early Temps.

Little Brother - The Listening (2003)
Little Brother - The Minstrel Show (2005)

Trivia: This group originated when all three were students at NC Central University where, decades earlier, my birth parents met when my father was a young professor and my mother a summer school student on campus. Little Brother became an underground hit, then a larger phenomenon within the national Hip-Hop scene. Later, like the Beatles, they went their separate ways. Producer 9th Wonder went on to work with Jay-Z, then a veritable who's who of Hip Hop and R&B. Rappers Phonte and Big Pooh went on to release acclaimed albums. Phonte discovered producer Nicolay and they formed The Foreign Exchange and dropped several albums. A lot of artists who had their first professional recordings as a guest on a Little Brother album (or Big Pooh album, or Foreign Exchange album, or Phonte alsum) have gone on to release their own albums. 9th Wonder still produces music but is now also a college professor who has taught at Duke, Wake Forest, his alma mater NCCU and other universities.

Little Brother is hosting a music festival in a few weeks that they hope to make an annual event. I'm not sure if the timing will allow me to go this year, but I hope to make the main event.
