Why, yes. It has been kind of a schizophrenic day. Why on earth do you say that? :D

Allison Russell - The Returner (2023)

A current darling of the americana/alt/something circuit. Musicians like Brandi Carlile and Hozier (who is this guy who appears to be a phenomenon in this crowd?) love her.
It's on my 2023 bucket list to see her live. Hopefully my bucket will not have this hole in it.

Wynton Marsalis - From the Plantations To the Penitentiary (2007)

While I think the 3.5 star rating is too low, this quote from the Allmusic review of the album nails what this is about.
AllMusic.com said:
Marsalis has crafted a bluesy, cerebral, soul-inflected album reminiscent of work by such iconic artists as Charles Mingus and Nina Simone. Adding weight to these comparisons is newcomer vocalist Jennifer Sanon, whose Simone-meets-Blossom Dearie style, featured throughout, adds a warm, melodic pathos to Marsalis' stark, spiritual and '50s Beat-influenced songs.

Glenn Miller - The Sustaining Remote Broadcasts vol. 1: Pennsylvania 6-5000 (rec. 1938-39-40, Vintage Jazz Classics 1990)

In the years since his disappearance over the English Channel, Glenn Miller has unjustly been relegated to the WWII big band nostalgia jukebox. That's a shame because Miller parlayed his strong jazz trombone chops and an unerring sense of what audiences like into a string of jazzy hit records and musical films. I've collected a lot of his recordings over the years but the RCA Bluebird singles were only the beginning. Glenn recorded almost all of his innumerable appearances on NBC Radio, dozens of which have appeared on RCA Records and a plethora of small reissue labels.

Vintage Jazz Classics launched its Glenn Miller broadcast series with this disc, featuring three complete shows that capture the growth of the band. From a rocky beginning at the Paradise Restaurant through early success at the Glen Island Casino to headlining the prestigious Cafe Rouge at the Pennsylvania Hotel, each gig reflects the increasing fortunes of the group. Instrumental flag wavers like "Bugle Call Rag", ballads from Marion Hutton and Ray Eberle, even novelties from Tex Beneke, each show had something for everyone. His popularity extended to all ages, including the college crowd who loved to sling a wing to his killer dillers.

Natalie Cole - Unforgettable With Love (1991)

 Lost In The Vault

Recently I've posted a couple of fine albums by Natalie's mom, Maria Cole. Unforgettable With Love illustrates the benefits of having two talented parents. Obviously I don't pay enough attention album titles, since I had forgotten just how good this one really is. :elisabs:
