Poontet is a hybrid of jazz, psychedelic rock, and funk.
Poontet’s EPK is loaded with sexual innuendo, including you insisting the project isn’t msogynistic. The album cover is a photo of a woman’s luscious lips in a parted come-on. Yet the music isn’t overtly sexual whatsoever; it’s quite a grand and almost a retro throwback to the big band struts of the ‘40s. If anything, the horns tend to take on the sensual role. What’s going on?
Perhaps what’s really going on is lack of marriage (no pun intended) between music and concept! As I state above, Poontet was initially very playful, and only gained stature as I came to embrace it, potential dislike and all.
