Stephan Mathieu and David Sylvian ~ Wandermüde (2013)

Dark Ambient. It's very good, I think, but a little too dark for a productive Monday morning. Definitely late night listening, though.

Various Artists - The Rough Guide To The Music Of The Appalachians (2002)

First the Alps, now the Appalachians. This is a pretty good survey of bluegrass and string band music. Which mountain range is next?

My money is on the Carpathians or the Urals.

Stephen Kovacs - Tiger On The Keys (Elektra 1956)

Vinyl Rip Of The Day.

This was the second release on Elektra by Kovacs, a Hungarian classical pianist. His main claim to fame seems to be that he finished fourth in the Third Annual Competition For Piano and Voice held in Vienna in 1936. For this album, he strayed from the classical repertoire to try his hands at pop flagwavers like "Tiger Rag Boogie" and "Kitten On The Keys". He comes across much like Liberace, presumably without the sequin jacket.

WOW! (where's the googly-eyed emoji when you really need it?)

I read a Nigerian novel or three that mentioned High Life music frequently and, while reading, I really wanted to listen to it to see what it was like. I never checked it out. This looks like a great place to start.

Thanks!

EDIT: It looks like the version you have is actually an audiobook that looks fantastic (but is probably more than I need right now.) I found what appears to be a CD companion to that tome.

ORDERED!

Great to see you, JR! Happy Holidays.

You can't go wrong with any of the Rough Guides and this is a fine one.

Mary Halverson & friends collected by John Zorn though Zorn himself does not play here - Paimon: Book of Angels, Volume 32 - (2017)

Alt-Jazz guitarists Halverson and Miles Okazaki, backed by bass and drums) take on Zorn's finale to his extremely long Masada tribute series. Honestly, I have no idea of exactly what Masada is except that is has something to do with Judaism, and while I've heard a couple of the albums in this series, this is the first that I've bought.

I still need to figure out exactly what Masada is, but this album here is something very good indeed. :)
