Vinyl Rip Of The Day.

Elektra isn't usually thought of as a jazz label, but back in the 50's Jac Holzman recorded his share. This seems to be Herbie Mann's first appearance on record. I can't think of any other flute-accordion quartets, but the sound is actually quite cool, thanks in large part to Joe Puma's guitar..

Cousin Joe - The Complete: Vol. 1 (1945-1946) (Blue Moon comp. 1995)

Cousin Joe (also known as Pleasant Joe, Smilin' Joe and Reverend Joshua, not to be confused with Monkey Joe, Blind Joe or Little Son Joe :elisabs:) was a prolific New Orleans blues singer. His early sessions collected here illustrate the extent to which blues and jazz overlapped in the decade following WWII. Jazz fans will recognize prominent sidemen such as Sidney Bechet, "Hot Lips" Page, Mezz Mezzrow and Harry Carney. These bouncy, sax-driven sides with Joe's earthy vocals also foreshadow the work of Fats Domino, to whom he bore an eerie resemblance:

Wow. I knew I liked it for its languorous style and grace, but I did not imagine that it was therapeutic for anybody but me.
