What Are You Listening To? December 2019

The Who - Who (2019)

If they were a new band, this would be positively received. But because it's the Who and they hadn't decided to quietly ride off into the sunset years ago, RYM hates it.

Saw it was released but I, like so many others, find it hard to imagine artists well past their prime. Will definitely check it out - seems like you feel it's worth a listen

Tom Waits - The Black Rider (1993)

I love Tom Waits but these songs for an avant garde stage play simply don't work out of that context, at least for me. :meh:

:2.0: on the Sam-O-Meter.
Today I took a box full of used CD's to Amoeba Records for trade. There were some really lame promo jazz comps and other detritus of the early 90's. The only album they refused was this one. So off it goes to Goodwill. :vic:

Many years ago I traded in some CDs, I think about 75, and the only one they refused was Belly - Star. They said they already had too many. Puzzling, because it is good. I guess country music fans felt ripped off that "Feed the Tree" was not representative of the overall album.

Not to burst your bubble of joy, remorse, or anything else, but at least four people indicate they want that CD on SwapaCD.

P. S. I buy within the range of three-to-five CDs per week, so I have a formidable stack of to-go CDs that didn't make it in triage. I usually try to see if they'll fly on SwapaCD or the Boomerang, but I need to trade in some of the no-flies. I will likely do that at the local music shop, either Pepperland or Fingerprints. When I take CDs to Goodwill or Salvation Army, I try to take them to one far away, as I do not want to see them (again) on the shelves.

Delphine ~ We're Sleeping Better Now (2001)

Last night, I had the strangest dream...

Yet, it wasn't a dream, really. I had just listened to Troy's album on CD, and I thought it had a resemblance to an older CD, by Delphine (a band). But, Delphine's CD isn't older; I had just heard it well over a decade ago, while Troy was a newer discovery to me. The Delphine CD was one I associated with a dark evening drive from Phoenix Sky Harbor to locate a hotel near Prescott, Arizona.

Well, the albums have a similar introspective feel and sound that I like very much, but they are not the same artist at all. I thought that I should tell people about it, or them.

Then, I thought: the chances of any one of the readers here having heard of any of these albums or artists is close to nil, so my observations would be meaningless, except that they mean something to me.

So, there you have it. Feel free to disregard and carry on....

But, maybe someone will listen.

If so, then what?
