Fritz Wunderlich & Hubert Giesen - Schubert: Die Schone Mullerin & 3 Lieder (rec. 1965-6. DG Originals Series reissue 1996)
Wunderlich's clarity and emotion give his readings of Schubert's lieder a unique sincerity and vulnerability. His life was tragically cut short at age 36 soon after these recordings were made, when he fell down a flight of stairs because he had tied his shoes carelessly. He was scheduled to debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City just weeks later.
John Lennon - Lennon Legend: The Very Best of John Lennon
Have been watching Peter Jackson's Get Back - Lord of the Rings meets the Beatles given it's, I dunno, 8 hour time frame. Very interesting if you love the Beatles or find the songwriting process fascinating. Not great if you're my wife and enjoy the Beatles but is not an Uber-fan - it can be slow (that's the point i'nt it - seeing the tedium that helped erode the Beatles.
Anyway, this should be in What Are You Watching it seems - but it got me wanting to spin a good overview of John's solo stuff (including non-album singles)
