What Are You Listening To? February 2023

Swedish and "Watch Out!"? I wonder if that was the influence for this:
Or maybe this....

Wow! Loves me some Carl Nielsen Symphonies. Especially, those two later ones.

P. S. You may have given me the idea to follow in your tracks today.
Beat you to it, Axo:

Danish National Symphony Orchestra (Fabio Luisi, cond.) - Nielsen: Symphonies Nos. 4 & 5 (2002)

NTktODEyMi5qcGVn.jpeg

For some reason, this recording sank beneath the icy waves of the North Sea (or was it the Baltic?) too quickly. It can be yours on Amazon...for $83.99 new or used, take your pick at the same price.

This review on Discogs says all you need to know:

This is a neglected new recording which is absolutely up to date and highly recommended. The sound recording is just amazing and also one realizes that Nielsen is in the bodies of the members of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra - if you just have to chose one recording of Nielsen´s symphonies - here it is.

Recording 10/10
Performance 10/10
Repertoire value 10/10

Trust me ! :)

Bruce Springsteen - Only the Strong Survive (2022)

Bruce Springsteen - Only the Strong Survive - album cover

The only Bruce album that I have hesitantly waited to spin - now four months after it's release. This is Bruce covering the songs he loves by The Supremes, Four Tops, Wilson Picket, Jerry Butler , The Commodores. Glad Bruce loves soul music - I too love soul music - that doesn't mean you hear me recording it. Not horrible - The Boss has a gruff soulful style in many of his songs, but the originals are just so much better. Plus, he doesn't bring anything new to the songs. Hopefully the couple he's been doing in his concerts sound better live
