The Nude Party - The Nude Party (2018)

thumbnail_The-Nude-Party-360x360.jpg

Here's another new artist I found in the pages of New Depression. The Nude Party offers 60's garage band psychedelia at its best. Lots of cheesy Farfisa, reverb guitar and ragged harmony vocals swim around in a low fi 60's mix that is just murky enough without annoying.

Ones To Watch sez:

More like brothers than bandmates, the six Nude dudes bring an energy to their live shows unlike any band I’ve seen as of late. And with such tight tunes reminiscent of The Animals and The Velvet Underground, you’d never know that most of the members have only been playing their instruments for about five years now.

With a recent move out of North Carolina and into the Catskill Mountains of New York, the Nudes are rolling up their sleeves to focus on writing and recording more under the guidance and mentorship of Black Lips’ drummer Oakley Munson. While the boys of The Nude Party are actually keeping their clothes on for the most part these days, the party aspect of their namesake is still fully operative. Their work-hard-play-hard mentality is clearly paying off too, with the group touring and supporting acts like The Growlers, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Black Lips, Ty Segall, Twin Peaks, Post Animal and Night Beats.

:4.5: on the Sam-O-Meter.

Dave Alvin And The Guilty Women - Dave Alvin And The Guilty Women

Dave Alvin - Eleven Eleven

Been on a Dave Alvin kick lately. If you like that kind of "heavy folk" music, then that first album is a delight. Cindy Cashdollar and Nina Gerber are in the band, if either of those names mean anything to you. Eleven Eleven is the follow-up release. In the same tone but with a different backing band. Oddly enough, on RYM The Guilty Women release got lower marks than the few albums released before and after. For me, it's a highlight in the catalog.

Alice ~ Park Hotel (1986)

RYM Review:
In 1986 Italian pop diva Alice tried to become more international. So she engaged top-notchers Tony Levin (bg), Phil Manzanera (g) and Jerry Marotta (dr) for Park Hotel, but that didn't change her typical sound. Although there are some good tunes here ("Il senso dei desideri", "Luci lontane", "Nomadi", "Volo di notte"), the album in total is not an excessively stirring affair.
My moniker is axolotl, and I endorse this message.

Various Artists - Rytm Och Swing: Swedish Jazz 1937-39 (Caprice comp. 1996)

Those crazy Swedes put forth a lot of hot jazz before WWII, no mean feat in chilly Scandinavia. The Swing Swingers, Sven Stilberg, Sam Samsons...all of your favorites are here. Mabel Albins and Alice Babs provide the swinging vocals.

:4.0: on the Sam-O-Meter, How Swede it is!
